Mayhem

Mayhem is a Norwegian black metal band formed in 1984 in Oslo. They are notorious for their extreme and controversial history, which includes acts of violence, arson, and suicide within the band. The group is considered one of the pioneers of the Norwegian black metal scene, known for their raw and aggressive sound, characterized by shrieked vocals, fast tempos, and dark lyrical themes often focusing on Satanism, death, and nihilism.

The band's early years were marked by line-up changes and a string of demos before releasing their influential debut album, "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas," in 1994. Tragically, the album's release was overshadowed by the murder of guitarist Euronymous by fellow band member Varg Vikernes, also known as Burzum. This event further fuelled the band's notoriety and cemented their place in black metal lore.

Despite numerous setbacks, including the deaths of other members and legal troubles, Mayhem persevered, continuing to release albums and tour, becoming one of the most enduring and influential bands in the black metal genre. Their impact on the extreme metal scene, both musically and culturally, cannot be overstated, with their legacy continuing to inspire and polarize fans and critics alike.
